Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior representative said the attack left him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
