Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after March of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led some to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He saved 4 early chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
