The Video Platform Grants Viewers Power to Limit AI-Generated Content in Their Feeds

Users will soon have a new feature that enables them to lessen the amount of AI-made media appearing in their feeds. This initiative comes as the service revealed that it presently contains more than 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Trial and Implementation

This change is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a widespread release. This shift comes amid a rise in AI content, fueled by emerging video-generation tools.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that almost 10% of the fastest-growing content creators on a popular video site only show AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this output is classified as low-quality AI content, a phrase for substandard, factory-style content that is often nonsensical or bizarre.

“We know from our community that a lot of users enjoy content created using AI tools, from AI artwork to science explainers, and we aim to provide users the ability to see more or less of that, based on their own choices,” said a company executive.

AI on the Platform

The service disclosed that there are currently over a billion videos on its network labeled as AI-generated. In total, over 100 mn videos are submitted to the platform every day, making clips made by AI a limited percentage of its total content library.

User Control Features

Members will be capable of reduce or increase the amount of AI-generated videos they see by accessing the content preference setting in the app and selecting AI-made media. Other topics that currently be adjusted under the tool cover politics, fashion, cosmetics, and dance.

Content Labeling and Policies

Its guidelines mandate users to tag convincing AI-made content, and it bans dangerous deepfakes of celebrities or critical incidents. Any authentic-looking artificial content that is without a tag can be deleted under its user guidelines.

In addition, the platform will now add an AI-generated label to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing artificial media. This step is designed to stop users from seeking to circumvent the labeling process.

Educational Initiatives

TikTok is furthermore launching a two million dollar awareness program for experts and institutions to develop learning resources about using AI responsibly. This initiative will support charitable organizations dedicated to training coding and technology.

Platform Protection

The platform has supported its moderation strategy, amid controversy over intentions to lay off a large number of review team members in Britain. TikTok is expected to reduce 439 jobs in its trust and safety division in the UK capital, with labor groups and internet security professionals voicing alarm that people are being substituted by machine-led review.

A senior executive clarified that staff-based oversight would still have a role, but automated tools can shield workers by eliminating the most harmful content ahead of it gets reviewed by humans. The platform reported a notable drop in shocking and graphic content handled by safety staff over the past year due to the use of its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have staff as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to minimize viewing of harmful content as rapidly, which is why a lot of the machine support is making a difference process content quickly.”
